Ok so Republican Christopher Lee a married congressman from upstate New York resigned suddenly Wednesday after a scandal erupted over emails and a shirtless photo supposedly sent to a woman in response to a Craigslist dating ad. After, this came out he gave a speech which said: “It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness. The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately."
This all came about because a Maryland woman had sent in emails supposedly written by Lee in response to a dating ad that she had placed on Craigslist. The ad had supposedly asked: "Will someone prove to me not all CL men look like toads?" So, in response came emails from a man representing himself as a divorced lobbyist younger than Lee's actual age of 46. The woman responded.
In the New York local paper it says quote “House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday said New York Republican Chris Lee did the right thing in resigning after a report that he flirted online with a strange woman and sent her a shirtless photo of himself. Boehner refused to say whether he spoke to Lee or urged him to resign after an online gossip site posted a provocative email exchange between the married first-term congressman and a woman who posted an ad on Craigslist.
More on the congressman are: The website Gawker reported that Lee had responded to a woman's ad in the "Women for Men" section of Craigslist personals. She wrote a post asking "will someone prove to me not all CL men look like toads?” He responded with a shirtless photo, describing himself as a "very fit fun classy" 39-year-old lobbyist. In a later email, he said he was divorced. Gawker said the woman cut off contact after searching for him online and finding out he lied about his age and occupation. Lee's resignation comes almost a year after Democrat Eric Massa resigned his seat in western New York's 29th Congressional District amid an investigation into whether he sexually harassed male staffers. Massa gave contradictory explanations for his behavior, acknowledging he groped and tickled a staffer in a nonsexual way and wrestled with others at his 50th birthday party, but then denying any groping occurred.
All I have to say is who cares? His wife might but what right do we have to judge him? He didn’t cheat on me, so I don’t care. Why is this the news of the hour and why do we always hear all the negative things and never anything good that people are doing? Good heavens look at what Bill Clinton and the Monika Lewinsky thing. Ok so they had a fling she was keeping it a secret as long as she was happy, but the minute she wasn’t she became the victim? Once again I don’t care what he did in the office, if he got high or cheated a million times on his wife; why do I not care because they fail to say when he was in office the national debt was at an all-time low, unemployment was below normal(which is a great thing). Also, he got people off welfare and working. So, when you look at everything one of these men has done does it really matter what is going on in their personal life? And, one other thing I think he planned this with his wife just so he could resign. It was too well planned; also how dumb could you be not to recognize his face? He never did anything with her, he never met her, do you really think what he did was worth getting him to resign when we have seen way worse? You be the judge! One more thing: he looks good for his age! I wouldn't have lied about my age if I was him.
I think it is very strange that he was even sending a picture of himself without a shirt on to another women when he is married. You have a good point, it is none of our business, but we always find out about it. Did he really think he could not get caught? It's not really the fact of what he did, but why he was on there in the first place.
