Soldier gets Silver Star, reprimand for same battle

In this article a solider recieves a silver star for his brave actions during an attack in Afghanistan. Then later recieves a letter of reprimand for the same attack. Two other soldiers are going through the same thing. It also says the location they were defending is a very hard place to defend. 9 soliders were killed, 12 wounded, and about 100 Talibans were killed.

Anyone confused?

Is he a good guy or a bad guy? I mean you award him then punish him for the same thing. Look at the score 9 good guys dead to about 100 bad guys dead. You be the judge.

  1. I agree with you, this subject is very confusing. It is strange to think that the government would waste their time going through the process of rewarding a soldier for heroic behavior and at the same time reprimand him for behavior unbecoming of a soldier. One would assume if his actions were deemed heroic, they would not bother reprimanding him for something that obviously didn't get in the way of his self sacrifice. Battle must surely be hell on earth and for the odds to be so much in our favor at the end, this soldier and others in his batallion must have done something right!
