In this article A Mississippi high school faces a lawsuit over their decision to cancel prom. There reason to cancel prom is because they do not want to allow a lesbian high school student to attend with her girlfriend. Also, on the school's defense there is a memorandum which states that prom dates MUST be of the opposite sex. The lawsuit alleges this is a violation of her right to freedom of expression.
This is stupid!
I mean hello, are nation is built on GOD. It's a National memorandum at all school to bring the opposite sex. Where is there a debate. Do we allow people to spray paint the school because that is a right to free expression? No we don't. These laws are their to protect our children. I say if we are a Nation under GOD let's stay that way and NOT encourage children to be GAY! My niece did not get to bring her girlfriend to prom because of this is she did not sue anybody. She just went with friends!
I agree with you Jessica, mostly. I think that we need to be loving and respectful of all people. (love the people, hate the sin.) But this does not mean that we should be extorted by certain groups to always get their way. Regardless of what society may say, being gay is not okay. However, we still gotta love 'em regardless. But it doesn't mean that we have to dance with 'em!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, the school has a rule on this...most schools have similar rules I'm sure. I understand that not all rules are good, but a lawsuit? I'm tempted to say this girl is a whiner and is used to getting whatever she wants! (Even if it means another girl!)
Firstly it IS against the freedom of expression, she didn't want to damage property or beat anyone up. She wanted, just like every other teenager, to take her date to prom.
ReplyDeleteSecondly this isn't about whether you morally agree, it's about the fact that this teenage girl is someone's daughter and someone's friend and should have the same right to a prom as anyone else.
Thirdly, I may not agree with being gay myself, but as a Christian, I'm positive it says in my Bible to "love thy neighbor" not "love only the neighbors your agree with". Everyone is a person, and everyone deserves the same rights and common courtesies. As far as I'm aware only God Almighty has the right to sit in judgement of someone else.

I just wanted to tell you that you need to recheck your way of thinking if you call yourself a Christian. Because a TRUE Christian would not say love thy neighbor let her go if she is gay. It is people like you that has ruined America!! Go back to your BIBLE and re-read it it says love the person not the sin and also do not allow the sin into your home. In the Old Testament, homosexuality is despised. Leviticus 18:22 says: "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." Some try to brush this passage off saying that it is not one of the Ten Commandments and the passages of Leviticus 18 were not real sins. These passages talk about the detestable act of homosexuality in the same breath as a man lying with his sister, or his mother, or with animals. That same chapter of Leviticus, it says that: "everyone who does any of these detestable things: such persons must be cut off from their people." (Leviticus 18:29)
