A Kansas man who flipped off a police officer after being issued a ticket for running a stop sign is geting rewarded with $5,000. The city of Olathe settled a civil rights complaint filed by Scott Schaper of Overland Park, KS. He was ticketed for disorderly conduct; when he flipped the bird. The city of Olathe agreed to pay the $5,000 from it's insurance and the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and western Mo. Schaper said the only reason he reacted the way he did is because the traffic stop had made his children cry.
I agree they SHOULD pay him. It is not illegal to flip someone off. That's called freedom of expression. I am glad he won his case. Police Officer's are supposed to be used to this kind of behavior.
This story is another example of how silly some people are. I know how offensive it can be to get flipped off, but only because we have been taught that it is an offensive and dirty thing to do. It's crazy that the man even attempted to sue his city, but maybe now that he has and won, police officers really have to get used to getting flipped off. That's a really sad situation they have to look forward to though.
